Turning up on a summer's evening to sit near the window in this understated, small local favourite, sipping an English Strawberry Puree + Prosecco Bellini; you might be forgiven for thinking you are on holiday.

Leo and Ennes are two of the friendliest business owners you might meet in Chiswick, and regulars know they will be given a warm welcome on arrival.

And what a generous welcome this was: a lovely Riesling from the cellar:

As an appetiser we had home cured salmon marinated in citrus with fresh cucumber, light wasabi mayo, dill. Look at the amazing colour of this cured salmon!

After working our way through a lovely special bottle of Pechstein 2007, we were recommended this South American Malbec, which Ennes explained was a big favourite of regular customers at Quantus:

Onto the starters.

Exquisite presentation: Szechuan duck leg confit, saffron spaetzle, asparagus, peppers, green salsa criolla.

Although my Szechuan duck was enjoyable, I did unfortunately have quite a bit of food envy for the below, which was Seared scallop gambas, with burnt sweetcorn, chilli, micro coriander, “Phuket style”.

This steak from Turnham Green Terrace's famous Macken Brothers was cooked to perfection. Personally I found the butter beans a little 'subtle' in flavour, and the horseradish could have packed more of a punch; though overall a very satisfying dish.

Here is a photo of the Macken Bros grilled beef fillet, homemade horseradish, leek & butterbeans.

Our other main dish was a very generous portion of lime & coconut fish, chilli, ginger, cilantro & peanut gremolata, green bean and jasmine rice. I really wanted to bottle-up this sauce and take it home, it was so good.

Onto puddings, and please forgive the slightly grainy photos here as we had moved into dusk time by now. (Or was it the wine?)

Pictured below is the amazing Cremoso mascarpone, chocolate and M&M, almond crumble, amaretto & espresso syrup. Now this I like; a restaurant that considers itself high-end dining but one which is perfectly happy to include frivolities like M&Ms in the menu. Perfect.

What do you get if you cross Dulce de Leche with Banoffee Pie? You get this gorgeous Banana Dulce de Leche dish, served with vanilla ice cream:

Finally, and because I'm an absolute pudding glutton, I couldn't resist trying this clementine jelly, honeyed Greek yoghurt, rhubarb compote. Pudding heaven! (I didn't eat for a few days after this, honest.)

It's easy to see why Quantus was voted one of the UK's top 25 most romantic restaurants by TopTable users; the intimate feel and gorgeous ambiance make for a perfect evening out in the Costa Del Chiswick.
